Technical Considerations for Migration Kits
Flexible Upgrades: Replace the amplifier separately from the existing motor, giving you more flexibility for staged upgrades or backup kit planning.
Motor Replacement Requirement: MR-J4 motors cannot be replaced on their own. Because they use higher encoder resolution, the matching amplifier must also be replaced.
Compatibility Assurance: Older MR-J2/J2S amplifiers cannot process MR-J4 motor feedback, so replacing the required components together helps maintain reliable system operation.
Minimized Downtime: Separate kit options make it easier to plan upgrades efficiently, reduce disruption, and keep production moving.
What It Does: MR-Configurator2 software converts existing MR-J2/J2S amplifier parameters into the MR-J4 format, helping ensure the servo system operates correctly after the upgrade.
No License? No Problem: If you do not have access to MR-Configurator2, send Rankin Automation your existing parameter file and our team can complete the conversion for you.
Why It Matters: Accurate parameter conversion helps preserve motion profiles, safety limits, and operating settings, reducing the risk of startup issues, errors, or unexpected downtime.
Ease and Confidence: Whether parameters are converted in-house or with support from Rankin Automation, the process helps make your MR-J4 upgrade smoother, more efficient, and more reliable.
Advanced Control Modes: CP and CL series amplifiers may use specialized positioning methods, including point tables and other modes that do not automatically convert to MR-J4.
Manual Entry May Be Required: Some settings may need to be manually entered into the new MR-J4 amplifier to help preserve existing motion profiles and system behavior.
Our Guidance: Rankin Automation can gather the details of your CP/CL units and help determine the correct software steps needed for a smoother migration.
Why It Matters: Properly addressing CP/CL model requirements helps avoid unexpected operation, maintain precision, and reduce downtime during the upgrade.

Migrate Your Servo System with Confidence
Moving from MR-J2/J2S to MR-J4 technology can bring up important questions around compatibility, wiring, parameter conversion, and installation. Get straightforward guidance to help you select the right migration kit, preserve key system settings, and complete the upgrade with less disruption to your production.
Rankin Automation can support MR-J2 and MR-J2S amplifier migrations across A-Type, B-Type, CP, and CL series. A-Type and B-Type models are the most common, while CP and CL models may require additional migration review or setup adjustments.
In many cases, the amplifier can be replaced separately from the existing motor. However, MR-J4 motors cannot be upgraded on their own without also replacing the matching amplifier because of the higher encoder resolution used with MR-J4 motor feedback.
No. Mitsubishi Servo Migration Kits include conversion cables that allow existing wiring to connect to the new MR-J4 amplifier or motor. This helps reduce rewiring, shorten installation time, and lower the risk of wiring mistakes.
Yes. MR-J4 amplifiers are designed with identical or smaller dimensions and matching mounting locations, allowing for a drop-in replacement that helps reduce cabinet modifications and downtime.
For A-Type kits, MR-Configurator2 software can be used to convert MR-J2/J2S parameters to the MR-J4 format. For B-Type kits, the MR-J4-B amplifier is pre-configured in MR-J2S compatibility mode and typically does not require parameter changes. If you do not have MR-Configurator2, Rankin Automation can help convert your parameter file.
Rankin Automation can provide guidance for kit selection, parameter conversion, installation, startup, and troubleshooting. Most support is available at no cost during normal business hours within our APR region.
Yes. Each migration kit includes the required components under one part number, making it easier to order spare kits for planned upgrades, critical equipment, or unexpected servo failures.
Start by identifying your current MR-J2 or MR-J2S amplifier and motor models. Rankin Automation can review your setup and help match your system to the correct MR-J4 migration kit.
